Research Interests

Daquan is interested in the study of baroclinic tides in the Red Sea and their impact on the circulations in the basin. He is making use of state-of-the-art general circulation ocean models, combined with available in-situ and satellite observations, to study the properties of the baroclinic tides in the Red Sea, including their general distribution and energetics, the internal solitary waves (ISWs) and their characteristics, generation and evolution process and mechanism, the breaking and dissipation processes and mechanisms, and their influence on the transport in the basin. He is currently focusing on studying the influence of tidal mixing on the basin general circulation especially the summer intrusion of Gulf of Aden Intermediate Water (GAIW) and the eddy properties.
