Implementing the First Operational Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave Forecasting System for the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf

Categories: Current Projects

Based on the data-driven ocean and atmosphere models we have developed at KAUST, we are implementing the first Operational Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave Forecasting Systems for the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf as part of the Saudi-Aramco Center for Marine Environment Research at KAUST. The systems will be nested within the global ocean (Mercator) and weather (GFS) forecasts and will make use of all available regional in-situ and satellite data. They will be further equipped with state-of-the-art online interactive tools for visualization and analysis of the forecasts, and for real-time queries of oil spill and air pollution predictions. The first versions of the systems are expected to be online by end of 2021.
